Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page!    The Team:  Jamie Austin, Rob Austin, Paul & Rachel Bridgman, Alex Freeman, John Gonzalez, Tarquin & Clare Henderson, Adrian & Alice Jones, Nici Mackintosh, Peter Sheene.

We are taking part in "The Three Peaks Challenge" and are supporting two very important charities; MPD Support (Guy's and St Thomas' Charity) and Cardiac Risk in the Young.  The Three Peaks is a serious challenge and to succeed we must finish the following climbs in 24 hours;  we start in Scotland on Friday 22nd May at 7pm, head-torches firmly in place we take on the monster Ben Nevis,(1,344m, 15kms), we then drive 5.5hrs to the Lake District where we start the early morning ascent of Scafell Pike (978m, 11km).  Another 5 hrs in the minibus takes us to Wales and the mighty Snowdon (1,085m, 14km), where we will finish by 7pm, Saturday 23rd May.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!  Because JustGiving are not able to split donations between two charities we are banking all donations with MPD Support, who will then half the total and send it directly to CRY.  Please see below information on both charities.

MPD Support Group (Charity Reg No. 251983) Myeloproliferative disorders are rare, and a form of blood cancer.  MPD sufferers produce too many blood cells and are at risk of clotting, strokes and leukaemia.  Patients need support and information about their illness, and a major goal of the Support Group now is to raise enough funding for new research to find a cure for myeloproliferative disorders.  Team member Rachel Bridgman was diagnosed with an MPD 3 years ago and is now passionate about fundraising for this cause, and thanks the Three Peaks Team and all who donate for their support.

Cardiac Risk in the Young (Charity Registration No 1050845) Hundreds of young people die unexpectedly of heart defects every year. CRY works to raise awareness of Sudden Death Syndrome (SDS) and campaigns for proactive screening of young people. It offers help and support to those who have suffered a loss, provides medical information, carries out Mobile Cardiac Screening and ECG Testing Programmes within local communities and contributes to medical research.  The Three Peaks Team came together through the Haslemere Rugby Club who support CRY as their main charity.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Cardiac Risk in the Young and MPD Support Group (Guy's and St Thomas' Charity) get your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

About the charity

MPN Voice leads the way in supporting people with rare blood cancers called Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPNs), with accurate information and emotional support. We're funding research toward better treatments and one day a cure. Most importantly we offer hope to those affected by MPNs.
