My story

Thanks heaps for making it this far...

I thought I’d take this opportunity to get on the mic(rophone) to let you know about my upcoming visit to India

I'm heading over to Rajasthan in July to spend a month working with an animal shelter. It's called Tree of Life for Animals (TOLFA) and it provides rescue, medical and surgical care for all kinds of animals. They mainly deal with street dogs, monkeys, cats, and other randoms such as camels, donkeys, cows and goats. It’s something that I’ve always wanted to do as I’ve got a bit of a thing for animals (not in that way), particularly monkeys, and I'd like to try and help a few out. There are literally millions of homeless animals on the streets of India and many of them have to survive with horrific injuries completely untreated.

In addition, India has the highest human death rate from rabies of anywhere in the world and stray dogs contribute to 99% of the deaths every year. According to the State of Rajasthan’s Animal Husbandry Department, the stray dog population has increased by an incredible 42% in the last 6 years and there is a constant threat of a rabies outbreak. TOLFA catch 20 dogs a day and vaccinate them against rabies as well as sterilising them in an effort to humanely reduce the massive population.

If you can swing us even a few bucks, that would be awesome. I won't be spending your money on beer and women - it all goes to the clinic's running costs such as medicines, running of the rescue vehicle, staff wages and fresh food for the patients. To give you an indication of the difference your donation can make - £5 will vaccinate 20 dogs against rabies.

Donating through Justgiving.com is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: The Tree of Life for Animals gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving.com makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

It's not everybody's cup of tea but I figured it's about time I got off my backside and did something positive towards an issue I care about.

Lots of love and massive respect

from Michael / Mick / Van / Stinky / Defraites / De La / Q-tip etc.
