We provide expert care and support to young people with cancer

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm helping to fundraise for the Teenage Cancer Trust along with my colleagues at Dingwall Academy. This is for Charlie, in memory of Nicola, and for every single one of the six young people diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK.

"Teenage Cancer Trust is raising funds to reach its goal of ensuring that every young person in Scotland has access to one of its life-changing specialist units.

These units are unlike ordinary hospital wards – they provide an environment where teenagers can enjoy being teenagers and are treated by teenage cancer experts.

Funds raised in Scotland will directly help young people in Scotland with cancer."

For more information, see this video.

This is really important to me, as cancer has touched my life personally. One of my colleague's sons has cancer. He has undergone a full year of difficult chemotherapy and surgery--surely nearly the worst thing a parent could have to watch their child go through, and about the worst thing a young person could have to go through themselves. Additionally, I am taking part in memory of a dear friend of long ago, Nicola Benn, who died of stomach cancer. The wards the TCT work so hard to build, and the work they do with young people affected by cancer is tremendous--check out their webpage for a little more, including stories and videos.

Teenage Cancer Trust needs your help to:
  • Raise funds to build a new unit at the New Children’s Hospital, Glasgow in 2015.
  • Raise funds to maintain our current units at The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre & the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Yorkhill, Glasgow.
  • Provide essential services to support our patients and their families including a family and friends support network and specially trained medical and support staff.

So what will I be doing? I will be taking part in a sponsored headshave at the Academy on 16th September (my birthday, of all days!).

Please give what you can, even if it's a very small amount. Every donation, no matter how small, will help improve the lives of some very sick teenagers.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.
