THE ROUND OF LOCH MULLARDOCH 4th June 2009 - 8th June 2009 . Not only is it “a long and serious backpacking expedition over some of the largest and loneliest mountains in the Scottish Highlands” (Richard Gilbert); it’s also a journey across truly magnificent mountain scenery of high, narrow ridges and tall shapely summits looking out across empty glens, completely uninhabited and with very few tracks. The circuit of this wilderness takes 3 days, each needing about 5,300 feet of climbing and 13 or 14 miles. Not short days then. There are 12 Munros in the traverse.
We are committed to completing this circular route in the Western Highlands, aiming to summit all 12 Munros en route. We will have to carry all our kit (tents ,food ,sleeping bags, fuel ,teddies), for 3 nights in the wilderness, and are already well into our advanced training regime (not).
Once past the half-way mark we will be even more committed, because the way forward is also the way out, and the last pleasure steamer on dour Loch Mullardoch was burnt in the '45.
A tough mid-winter selection course in the Brecons Beacons whittled down countless hopefuls, to your intrepid foursome , the hope-less....
