St Ann’s Hospice is here to help and support people through one of the most difficult times of their lives.

Hospice care is based on the simple idea that a person who has a life-threatening illness or is dying is still very much a living person, with unique physical, emotional, social & spiritual needs. At St Ann’s Hospice, our aim is to help people maintain their dignity and maximise their quality of life. We’re not just focused on our patients either: we recognise that it’s also a difficult time for relatives, carers and friends & that they may need support too.

All of the services provided by the hospice are free of charge and around two thirds of our funding comes from donations and fundraising events – that means we have to raise £16,000 a day to provide our services.

My story

Over the year, Team Winstanley and friends have been working hard at raising money in memory of Irene.

Well it's November and we have successfully completed the following fundraising events: Go Ape, a Charity Football Match and a Race through the rockies by Donna's gaffer, Ivan.

In addition, Laura, Keeley and Saffy braved the elements on a wet morning in Tatton Park for 'Race for Life' and raised an additional £307.50 to help cancer charities.

We are currently in preparation for the 'Charity Darts Event' down the local boozer and will update you with monies raised (and injuries sustained) after the event!

We thank all our friends, family, colleagues and anyone else who has helped us get this far. But for that one last push to the finish post at the end of 2009, please, please, dig deep................ to raise £2,000 in memory of our mum, Irene.

As St Ann's runs on donations, it was someone elses donation of money that provided us all, with the care, love and support needed at a time already unimaginable.

For anyone who has been affected in any way by the "big C" you already know how much this means.............to us.................. and to you!

In loving memory of Irene Winstanley who fell asleep on 19 January 2009.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not meant to be,
So he put his arms around you and whispered "Come to Me",
With tearful eyes we watched you, as we saw you pass away.
Although we loved you deeply, we could not make you stay.
Your Golden Heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest.
God broke our hearts to prove to us, He only takes the best.

P.S. This is also the most efficient way to help raise cash to help others: St Ann's Hospice will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
