My story
Ok so those of you who know me, know I am not a runnner. I am definitely a 'built for comfort' kinda gal! But I am planning on changing that and to raise money for a cause which is very important to me.
The Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal 2012.
Why have I chosen to raise money for them when there are so many other charities? Well, there is only one reason. His name is Patrick Divers and he is my little brother.
Patrick is 24 and is a proud Welsh Guard. He is one of the most important people in my life and I am immensely proud of him and his achievements. He and his 'band of brothers' are currently preparing to deploy to Afghanistan as part of Op Herrick 16 in late March of this year.
Who are they? The Appeal was established to raise much needed finds to help support those returning servicemen who were critically injured by the savages of war. It also provides much needed care and support to the families of those servicemen who were killed in action. The provide a range of care which includes assistance to those too injured to remain in the Army, support with rehabilitation programmes and the provision of ongoing medical and psychological treatment for those returning from operations. You can read more about them here - http://www.welshguardsappeal.com
So what am I going to do? I am going to get my bum in gear and run 3 x 5km runs. This is no mean feat for me y'know! I usually only ever run for three reasons - something on fire/big dog/shoe sale!
The plan is this - my husband Andrew is going to be in charge of ensuring I am training and keeping me motivated! I am registered with the Hull Park Run which is a 5km route and is accurately measured using a running wheel. Info can be found here - http://www.parkrun.org.uk/hull/course
DUE TO INJURY MY RUNS ARE CURRENTLY POSTPONED - MORE INFORMATION WILL FOLLOW.
If you would like to come along and cheer me on, feel free! But all I really want is you to get donating to help keep me motivated!! Every penny helps and I am grateful for anything you can spare.
Many thanks for taking the time to look at my page. I will keep you updated on my progress via Facebook and Twitter - @mrsspacer.
Wish me luck!

Welsh Guards Appeal
Charity Registration No. 1073109
The Welsh Guards have recently returned from a successful tour of Helmand Province in Afghanistan. Throughout the summer they relentlessly took the fight to the Taliban and conducted over 3242 combat patrols and sustained no less than 1463 attacks from the enemy. These successes were not without some considerable cost including the deaths of 7 soldiers, including the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Rupert Thorneloe, the highest ranking officer killed in action since the Falkland’s War. In addition, a considerable number of soldiers have been in hospital and are now in rehabilitation centres. Furthermore, we must expect that more will, in the longer term, be mentally invalided by their experiences.
The next 10 years promise to make extraordinary demands on the Regiment, serving Welsh Guardsmen, their partners and families and those members of the Regiment who have left through disability or work-related illness. The Welsh Guards Afghanistan Appeal is designed to support, alleviate and improve the prospects of those consequently in need.
•Support the families and dependants of those killed in action by responding promptly to problems of bereavement and hardship. •Support those wounded on operations, particularly those who have had to leave the Army, to assist in finding them new employment and to help them become active family and community members. •Support the families and dependants of those seriously wounded or injured in prolonged recovery situations.
