three peak challenge · 1 May 2009

Railway Children has a vision of a world in which no child is lost to the streets. Across the UK, India and Tanzania, our networks provide an opportunity for us to reach children who are alone and vulnerable before they come to serious harm. Together, we’re determined we’ll leave no child behind.

Story

Dear All

The Challenge...

SELEX Systems Integration Ltd has put forward two teams (one boys team and one girls team) to take part in one of Britain’s ultimate physical endurance challenges in order to raise money for The Railway Children charity. Although SELEX has been a frequent supporter of the Railway Children charity in the past, the two teams have decided to take it one step further this year by participating in The Three Peak Challenge! The team will embark on this event, organised by the Railway Children, which involves climbing the three highest peaks in Britain. In addition, the Railway Children Three Peaks Challenge is the only one to be truly environmentally friendly as competitors travel between the mountains by train!

The Peaks...

The three peaks in the challenge are the following:

    Snowdon (Wales - 1085m) Scafell Pike (England - 978m) Ben Nevis (Scotland - 1344m)
They will be climbed sequentially, starting with Snowden which will be climbed at night - just to make sure the challenge is truly challenging! A total of approximately 19km will be walked, climbing an overall aggregate of 3,000m in just under 38hrs (inclusive of train journeys)!

The Training...

As this challenge is not for the faint-hearted, hard work, time and effort are key requirements. Individual training, as well as team training weekends, have been already scheduled! Cycle rides, jogging, and walking in parks are a few examples of the activities we'll be doing regularly followed by a few practice mountain treks!

About the Charity...

The Railway Children Charity has been reaching out to the world for more than a decade. Working in India, the UK, East Africa, Russia and Latin America, their primary goal is to change the lives of children living on the streets. Operations include meeting the immediate needs of the children, creating changes in the local communities to improve child protection and influence key policy decision makers in government to create safeguarding provisions and budgets for street children.

Please visit http://www.railwaychildren.org.uk/ for more information, amazing and heart moving stories and video clips of some of these children saved with the help and support of the charity.

Sponsorship...

Donating through JustGiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also one of the most efficient ways to sponsor the team! The Railway Children will receive your money more quickly and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Being fit and excelling in the challenge is half of the battle won, the fund raising is the other half.  The team have several events under their sleeves (one could well be a full body wax!) to raise as much money as possible as we truly believe that every penny given to the Railway Children Charity can save a child's life!

PLEASE GIVE GENEROUSLY!!

A BIG THANK YOU TO ALL!!!!

Mt SELEX Team - Mark, Chris, Alex, Steve, Ivan, Emma, Izzy, Nicola, Louise and Alison
