Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
We are a team of 2 mums (Sue and Helen) and 2 daughters (Charlotte and Katie) who will be swimming across Lake Windemere on Sept 12th to raise as much as we can for the Pancreatic Cancer Research fund.
The statistics speak for themselves-40 years ago only 46% of women diagnosed with breast cancer survived. Now that figure is 80%. 40 years ago few children survived leukaemia. Now the survival rate is 80%. Forty years ago 3% of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer survived 5 years or more and the figure is still the same.
More research is needed into early detection and treatments of Pancreatic Cancer with the ultimate aim of finding a cure.
We are training hard for the swim so please be as generous as you can!
WE DID IT!!
We were feeling more than a little anxious when we arrived at Ambleside on race day, but the glorious sunshine and amazing atmosphere (3000 participants on both Saturday and Sunday) helped settle our nerves. It looked a very long way standing on the bank looking at the buoys marking the course, but we knew this is what all our training had been for. When the starter sounded we plunged into the icey water and were off! We were very pleased with our performance and feel privileged to have been part of this amazing event and to have been able to support the work of the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund by taking part. Many thanks to Granny and Grandpa for supporting us on the day, and thanks to everyone who sponsored us. When we have collected all our sponsor money we will have passed our fund raising target. THANK YOU.
