We are six mums and children: Hi from Helena & Cody, Laura & Oscar, Susan & Jake, Preslava & Boris, Kerstin & Sophia, Jennie & Lukas & Sebastian.

We formed MUMS FOR GOOD in direct response to the disturbing images we continue to see of Romanian orphans, children who are abandoned by their families and left in hospitals without love or much care and then transferred into orphanages, which are pretty grim places.

About 9,000* babies are abandoned every year in Romania, often because they have a disability or a medical problem.  F.R.O.D.O. works to provide medical treatment for these children – so many of the disabilities are routinely treated in other countries.

We are raising funds for F.R.O.D.O. with a specific vision in mind.  To stop child abandonment and ensure that children are loved and cared for within their family.

So how are we going to do achieve this?  With your help, we will fund the development of a F.R.O.D.O. Family Support Team; working in a maternity hospital with direct access to the mothers who might abandon their babies.  The team members – a trained social worker and nurses - will work with the mothers and offer them whatever support they need so they will bond with their babies, take them home and keep them. 

If the baby has a disability F.R.O.D.O.’s Medical Programme will help them.  If they just need help with practical expenses the team will supply basic essentials like nappies and bedding until the baby is safely part of the family.

This is a tried and tested programme which has been successfully running in Oradea, Romania, for the past year.

It’s hard for us to understand how any mum or dad could just walk away from their brand new baby, or dump it back in hospital a few days later.   But rather than judge them, let’s do something positive to give them choices.
