Munrodoug Finale - Ben Lomond · 5 June 2008

Maggie’s Centres are warm and welcoming places built alongside NHS hospitals that provide the support that people with cancer and their family and friends need. www.maggiescentres.org

Story

Right. Get your wallets out!

My lovely friend Doug started with Beinn Narnain on 13th January last year and will complete the full round of 284 Munros (that's a Scottish hill over 3,000 ft) on July 12th. For those of you who don't know much about Munros this is a HUGE achievement - most 'baggers' take a couple of decades to do them all.

Over the last year and a half Doug has raised a huge pile of pennies for Maggie's Centres in memory of our friend Jill who died in October last year at just 31 years old. The support provided by Jill's local Maggie's Centre to both herself and her family during her treatment for breast cancer was amazing.

So far my contribution to the challenge has been to set up and maintain a website chronicling Doug's journey up each hill but now it's time to get out there with him and I'll be joining Doug and friends on Saturday 12th July to climb what will be my first official Munro and his very last - Ben Lomond.

3,196 ft up and 974 metres down - with my rickety knees a challenge it will be.

I'd like to add a few pennies more to the grand total so please dig deep and sponsor me on my first stomp up (and hopefully down) a Munro for this fantastic organisation.

Many thanks
Izzie xx
