Story
There are 284 mountains in Scotland over 3000 feet in height recognised by the Scottish Mountaineering Club (the SMC) as "Munros" – so called after Sir Hector Munro who published a list of Scottish Mountains over 3000 feet in 1891. The first person to climb all the Munros was the Reverend A.E. Robertson in 1901 and the SCM maintains a list of the names of all those who have achieved the feat.
Ralph Whiting aged 69, a retired solicitor and for the past eight years Chairman of the Trustees of The Jessie May Trust, has climbed 276 of the Munros. He began "Munro bagging", as it is known, in 1989 and his goal is to complete the full round on or before his 70th birthday in June 2008. He wants to do this to achieve his own ambition but also to raise money through sponsorship towards The Jessie May Trust’s "Precious Time Appeal"
