60 pupils at Pangbourne College are working with the charity DEBRA to raise £12,000 in one day from sales of 5 music tracks they created from scratch in just one day. Think Apprentice meets X Factor and you have it!
The event is run by Musikscool, who organise Leadership and Development events in schools and businesses.
Pangbourne College runs Taking Responsibility conferences every year to identify leadership and personal quailities in its pupils.
DEBRA funds pioneering research to find effective treatments and, ultimately, a cure for EB. Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a genetic condition which causes the skin to blister and break at the slightest touch or rub, causing painful, open wounds and sores. It is estimated that there are up to 10,000 people with EB in the UK, and 500,000 worldwide. EB can be divided into 3 main types: Simplex, Dystrophic and Junctional. There is currently no known cure for EB.
DEBRA focuses its work in three areas:
DEBRA provides a team of specialist nurses to deliver healthcare to children and adults living with EB
DEBRA provides social care support to help people live with dignity. This provides a service parents and people with EB can call on, to reach out for advice, advocacy in the face of red tape, and emergency grants. We provide access to specially adapted holiday home.
DEBRA interconnects each of these areas to ensure a holistic approach to their care, from birth for a long as it is needed.
