Thank you very much for your generous sponsorship on what I had hoped would be a challenging, but extremely fulfilling trek from Mont Blanc to the Matterhorn. Unfortunately, I had to cancel my trip due to injury. We were due to leave Chamonix on the Tuesday morning, but the weather was very bad, snowing heavily, but with good prospects for Wednesday, when we could leave and catch up a day by missing one of the huts out. We planned on spending Tuesday having a gentle warm up on the Grands Montets glacier at Argentiere, before heading out on Wednesday. Unfortunately, I took a tumble in the heavy powder skiing down to the Grands Montets cable car, and tore my calf muscle quite badly. I saw the doctor in Argentiere that afternoon, who ruled out any possibility of even attempting it. Considering I can barely walk now, and will not be able to do any exercise for at least three weeks, she was certainly correct. The rest of the group that were in Chamonix left to climb the Col du Chardonnay, the first step of the Haute Route, in blazing sunshine on a cool fresh morning with 40cm of fresh powder giving them pristine skiing conditions. As you can imagine I am absolutely gutted that I can’t do it, but I will attempt it next year instead.
Your generous donations contributed to a total of £2000 of already paid for donations, which will be sent on to the BHF, CRUK, and the other charities. Another £3000 had been pledged if I could complete it, and thanks to those people too, but maybe another time.
