Rowena's Memory Walk 2017

Leicester Memory Walk · 1 October 2017 ·
My dad was 63 years old, when he died from pneumonia, as a direct complication from Alzheimer's. To lose my dad at such a young age, was heartbreaking, but what was worse, was watching him deteriorate over 10 years. We first started noticing that he was making mistakes and getting confused in 2002, when he was only 55, but looking back, there were signs a lot earlier. Because my dad was so young, the doctor's were unsure what was wrong with him and it look about 4 years before they diagnosed early onset dementia. Sadly he never understood what was really wrong with him, as the dementia was already seriously affecting him and he never got to discuss with us, his final wishes 😢
This walk is so important to me, to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society, to fund research and get rid of this awful disease.
Around 225,000 people develop dementia every year – that's the equivalent to one person every three minutes. This September and October Memory Walks will be taking place across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to raise money for a world without dementia. Arm in arm, step by step and pound by pound, we will get there. Once you donate, Just Giving will send your money directly to the Alzheimer's Society. So it's the most efficient way to raise money – saving time and cutting costs for the charity. Please dig deep and help us walk for a world without dementia.Around 225,000 people develop dementia every year – that's the equivalent to one person every three minutes.
