Story
Betty was my lovely mum who was kind, funny and very loving. She was an excellent cook and had a talent of filling a table with a variety of food to the delight of her friends and family. She loved shoes and clothes and was always very smart. Gardening, decorating and sewing were also skills that she enjoyed. She was also very passionate about animals especially dogs and always had one by her side.
The person she was when she died was none of these things apart from needing the constant presence of her dog Sam. It was a slow decline into a very scared and confused shell of herself. Heartbreaking for her family and friends who were all powerless to help.
This is why we need to find a cure for dementia so that no more families have to suffer this heartbreak. Just think of the torture of losing your memories one by one and your brain forgetting how to function to do basic things like getting dressed or making yourself a drink and to know this is happening to you. I can’t imagine anything worse, so please support the memory walk and let’s find a cure soon. Thank you x
