Story

***Update *** Please click here to see our latest donation photos for cyclone victims.

Dear Friends,

As you know, the people of Myanmar (Burma) desperately need our support.  The country has been hit by the worst cyclone in history leaving more than 130,000 dead and 2.4 million homeless with no clean water, food or shelter.  The storm drove tsunami-like waves up to 12 ft high  wiping out entire town of Bogalay in Ayeyarwaddy delta.

While a chapter is closed for the dead, suffering continues for the survivors.

Making a donation now (no matter how big or small), will get clean drinking water, food, medical supplies and much more directly to those who need it before it's too late.

Friends of the Rainforests in Myanmar (FORM), a non-governmental organisation, has been working in these rural areas since 1997 for various development programmes for the most needed poor in Myanmar.  FORM already has a local office in the capital, Rangoon and has secured access to the cyclone's worst-hit areas to help the most needed people.

Your donation through FORM is guaranteed to contribute directly to the most needed cyclone victims in Myanmar.

If you are in a position to contribute for this good cause, please donate us now, every donation will make a difference:

Please forward this to your friends and family to support the Myanmar Cyclone Victim Appeal.

Your support is hugely appreciated!

Immediate Action

Since we started fundraising for the cyclone victims on 08.05.08, together with the support of Balloons over Bagan and Malikha Lodge, we have raised £12,220 online and further £5,000 from private donors. Since middle of May we have been able to send aids directly to the survivors in the worst cyclone-hit areas in the Ayeyarwaddy delta. We have distributed  the badly needed essential aids such as rice, eggs, instant noodles, blankets, mosquito nets, soup, clothes, cooking oil & utensils, candles, freshwater and plastic/ tarpaulin sheets directly to cyclone victims in Bogalay, Mawlamyaing gyun, Laputta, Dedaye and Kungyangone townships which are the worst-hit areas. We are also helping to provide free medical treatment for the victims in Dedaye, Kungyangone and Kawmu Townships.

Many cyclone survivors were overwhelmed with emotions due to the generosity of our friends and well-wishers from all over the world. On behalf of poor cyclone survivors we like to express our gratitude to all donors.

Long-term Future

Since it was founded in 1997 in London, FORM has been working in Myanmar with the following objectives:

. protection of environment and conservation of wildlife

. relief of poverty

. promotion of education & health

. Promotion of renewable energy - for more information click here www.formuk.org

Previously we have carried out projects in different states and regions of the country. However due to cyclone Nargis we now have to pay more attention to the cyclone-hit areas in Ayeyarwaddy delta. There is real urgency to restore the depleted mangrove forests along Myanmar's 1,600 miles long coastal areas. We are also interested in taking preventative measures such as cyclone proof housing, cyclone bunkers and early warning system to prevent and protect loss of lives and material in the events of future disasters. Additionally we have plans to help the orphans whose future is bleak without external help. Therefore we will be launching a special fundraising appeal for these orphans as soon as we receive necessary information from our office in Yangon.
