I will be taking part in the MAG Somme to Flanders cycle challenge in July 2010. This will involve cycling about 250 miles over three days through the battlefields of northern France. I decided to take part in this  challenge for several reasons.

A charity bike ride was something I wanted to do personally, but it needed to be the right charity. I am interested in what happened in World War I, so the opportunity to cycle through the areas from Somme to Flanders, while also raising money for a charity that helps victims of war and other conflicts, seemed just what I had been waiting for.

My fundraising is going really well. I have had a TV quiz that raised about £140, and a clothes swap event that raised about £150. The craft fair at the Manor House Hotel in West Auckland on 4 April 2010 raised about £700. My charity stall on Darlington market on 17 April raised about £295.

My final "official" fundraising activity was an auction on 8 May 2010 at Elm Ridge Church Hall in Darlington.  We raised about £200 there. I have also sold plenty of my worldly goods (and those donated by my generous friends) on eBay. All of my proceeds have gone to MAG.

Recent news - I have bought myself a suitable bike, which now features in photo number 4.
