My Story
Hi There!
My names Natalie, and I'm from the United Kingdom.
November this year I applied for a volunteer programme in Sri Lanka, and was awarded a place on the scheme.
On the 14th of July this year I will be traveling 16 hours from London to Sri Lanka to help take part in a volunteer programme to help rescue and look after orphaned elephants in the town of Kegalla.
The programme is designed to look after elephants that have been abandoned by there owners, young babies that need looking after due to poching, as well as elderly elephants that can no long be looked after by their owner.
The idea of the programme is to also learn the culture of the area, and help the permanent staff with their work load as well teaching the English language.
My volunteering trip will last 2 weeks and will provide help to the workers and the elephants that are in urgent need of tender loving care.
Tasks during my trip involve teaching people in the area the English language, feeding, cleaning and giving elephants a safe envirnoment to live in, my duties also include keeping the up-keep of the orphange.
Many of the orphanded elephants without this programme many have been left to die. The poaching of elephants is a huge problem throughout the world, which continues to threaten the lives of many animals across the world.
These majestic creaters are loved by millions of people throughout the world and deserve to be seen by our kids generation, and the next generation and so forth.
The money I need to raise is around $500, this money will pay for my flight from London to Sri Lanka, which will allow me to take part is this fantastic programme.
Part of the money raised will also go the volunteer programme itself to help keep the orphange running, which will allow other volunteers to continue to help!
During my trip to the orphange I plan to keep a diary whilst away, as well taking photos to help educate people when I arrive home, and will uploading them to anyone who wants to read, or learn more on how to help!
I hope I've inspired you to maybe look into voluteering abroad, it can change animals lives, as well as the people you need.
