RNLI volunteer lifeboat crews provide a 24-hour search and rescue service all around the UK and Ireland, while lifeguards keep a careful watch on the UK’s busiest beaches. RNLI lifesaving and drowning prevention depend on supporter fundraising and the generous donations that you and others give.

Story

For those of you who may/may not be aware (I have been twittering about it for some time), this Saturday I will be taking part in the UK World Record Attempt for Extreme Underwater Ironing as part of the Yorkshire Divers group at the National Diving and Activity Centre, Chepstow.

The record (for the largest group of people simultaneously ironing…good job I’ve got those extension leads!) is currently being held by an Australian group of 72, and we have 150 confirmed attendees, so it’s looking good for the Poms to fight back!  As I’m one of only 10 women taking place, this is quite a big deal for me, and we have bagsied space on top of an old BAE 146 sunk at 25m, with our own photographers and everything.  There are even possibilities of national press, but I’m not getting my hopes up just yet.

Everybody attending is paying £20 and sending out sponsorship forms to raise money for the RNLI, an excellent cause and one that does not get nearly enough recognition in my opinion.  As such, I’m asking you all to please dig deep and give whatever you can, as I’m aware that everyone is brassic this soon after Christmas.  Even £2 would help, and hopefully we can all raise a chunk of cash for those brave men and women saving our arses up and down UK waters everyday.  It will also make me feel like I’m freezing my giblets off underwater for a good reason
