Story
Thank you for visiting my Scope fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Scope will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Scope's focus is on people with cerebal palsy and their aim is that disabled people should achieve equality: a society in which they are as valued and have the same human and civil rights as everyone else.
I originally became involved in helping people with cerebal palsy back in the 1990's when working with Madeline Harding, a local lass who inspired the creation of the Spandex Foundation. I now hope to renew my support for people with cerebal palsy by combining, at least for the next year or so, my passion for skiing/boarding with fundraising for Scope.
The aim of the challenge is to ski / board 24 peaks in 48 hours covering 130km through the heart of Austria. To put this into contect this is the equivalent of skiing down Everest one each day! Whilst I have set the target here at £1,300, I do hope to raise more so please do give generously.
This will be the ninth running of Scope's White Peaks Ski and Board Challenge with over 850 people now having taken part with £1.5 million having being raised.
Full details of the 2007 challenge can be found here: http://www.scope.org.uk/adventures/whitepeaks.shtml
I've decided that the skiing may not be enough of a challenge (oh am I heading for a fall!) so I've come up with an extra ruse: on the third day, after skiing down the equivalent of Everest five times (I only just found this out, I thought it was only twice!) on the previous two days, I'm going to climb/hike to the highest peak (the Kitzsteinhorn), with skis and all. I will have to climb 2,300m from Kaprun to as far up the Kitzsteinhorn as I can get (i.e. top station) at 3029m. It should take me 8 hours, although if I can't find a safe route up from Kaprun, I may have to take the cable car up to Lanweid and start there.
I'm hoping to publish the climb/hike live @ www.sportsdo.net so that you can all watch my 'Death March' as Antony has so kindly labelled it in real time.
A picture of the Kitzstienhorn can be found here http://www.alpenverein-krefeld.de/huetten/krh-wlan.jpg and here http://www.izazov.net/panorama/kitzsteinhorn_plan_staza.jpg
Wiki details on the Kitzstienhorn can be found here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitzsteinhorn and you can fly to the location in Google Earth/Maps etc. from here http://tools.wikimedia.de/~magnus/geo/geohack.php?params=47_11_N_12_41_E_type:mountain
