Islamic Relief is an international relief and development charity that aims to alleviate the suffering of the world's poorest people. As well as responding to disasters and emergencies, it promotes sustainable economic and social development by working with local communities - regardless of race, religion or gender.

Story

Network Bangla is launching an appeal to raise money for the victims of Cyclone Alia, in conjunction with Islamic Relief.

Network Bangla has previously partnered Islamic Relief on the Cyclone Sidr appeal and has teamed up again with the charity as they already have workers on the ground, and will be able to get the money to where it is needed the most.

After effects of Cyclone Aila in Bangladesh

As many of you will know, on 25th May 2009, the south western coast of Bangladesh was hit by Cyclone Aila which killed over 240 people, injured many thousands, and made countless numbers of people homeless. While the Cyclone may have long passed, the affected areas were still recovering from Cyclone Sidr, which killed over 3,500 and forced over a million to abandon their homes in November 2007.  Survivors have in recent days returned to their homes only to find their houses destroyed, crops submerged, and livestock dead. Many unfortunate individuals will also suffer from disease related to the poor sanitary conditions that currently exist.

People in the south west coast of Bangladesh, especially those forced to leave their homes, urgently need food, shelter, and medical services.

- £25 will buy cooking utensils for a family to cook and feed their family.
- £50 will buy a Children’s survival pack (a pack will include: a blanket, a mosquito net, spare clothes, school items, & toys).
- £100 will buy a hygiene kit and a water supply; this is the cost per child for a whole year.

Every penny counts, and we will be grateful for any donations, no matter how big or small. So please dig into your pockets and give whatever you can - and thank you so much for your kind generosity.
