My father was recently diagnosed with soft tissue sarcoma. The progress of this relatively rare cancer has shocked us all. A matter of weeks ago he was enjoying a holiday, on return to the UK he thought he had a DVT. He visited numerous doctors and medical facilities, however as there has been so little research into this cancer his symptoms were dismissed as something less serious. Upon definitive diagnosis he had his tumor removed and we hoped this was it. However 2 weeks later other symptoms alerted medical staff and even they were shocked by the rapid progress of the disease, which we have been told, sadly, is inoperable.
This disease affects children and adults alike. Clinical trials are taking place that offer great hope for progress; but as a low profile disease, little funding for research is available.
I will run the Great North Run on Sunday 20th September to help raise money for this charity. Any donations however small would be very much appreciated by myself, my family and sarcoma research.
Thank you,
The Johnson family.
