Hi!

I would appreciate your help with this important charity project.  As many of you will know, I was keen to do something active, but also to ensure that the money goes directly to the people who need it most.

My aim is to raise money for SEWA INTERNATIONAL UK . Their principle role is
• To relieve poverty and disease and help the sick, needy, the weak and those affected by natural calamities, disasters and other suffering, especially for people in countries such as India, China, Bangladesh and Burma, as well as local projects in the United Kingdom.
• To help in the education and training of the poor, sick, disabled and socially backward students and assist them financially.

This organisation is run entirely by dedicated volunteers aiding a variety of projects ranging from relief projects to educational projects, welfare and health care projects. One of the reasons why I chose this project is because Sewa ('giving') ensures that every penny goes to victims, therefore guaranteeing that aid gets to everyone who needs it regardless of class, creed, colour or religion.

The first part of the trip is a drive through from Manali to Leh crossing four high mountain passes, Rohtang  3985m, Baralacha 4480m, Lachalung 5065m and Taglang 5370m. Our first day will be spent in Rumbak (an ecofriendly village), we will then cross Stok La high pass 4900m and begin our ascent in the Stok range. Then we'll begin our high altitude trek to the summit of STOK KANGRI reaching 6114m! The trek is 30th August -14th September 2008.

This will be far from a walk in the park.  Although the scenery looks beautiful in photographs, we will have to contend with both altitude and extreme weather.  Whilst we will have to tackle many challenges along the way, by working as a team, we get to the end.  We will also ensure that we get some photos of us smiling to you as well!
