My story

Hey,

Thanks for visiting my Mozambique fundraising page...

Last year, I spent several weeks in Massaca, Mozambique working with Habitat for Humanity on the (OVC) 'Orphans and Vulnerable Childrens Programme'. It was a very successful trip with our small team of ten from Northern Ireland managing to construct 15 houses, providing in excess of 50 people, many of whom are very young children, a secure place to call home.

The community we worked in is one of the poorest in the region, with Aids affecting many. The OVC programme has made a huge impact on this community, providing many with not only housing, but inheritance rights, land ownership and presents income generation activites for those most in need. This small community really touched my heart and I felt I had to go back and give more.

This year, I have taken it a step further and am co-leading a team of 14 volunteers from Northern Ireland. We have great hopes to construct somewhere in the region of 15-20 houses and help a new generation of children, this of course depends on the support we receive before we leave.

All team members have a fundraising target, and we've only got about 3 months to raise it in, so please dig deep and sponsor me online. Please let me know if you have any questions about the trip, I'd only be too glad to answer them.. I can be contacted through facebook or on email at roosterreid@hotmail.com. If you want to talk to me in person about the trip or see more photos of last years trip, I'd only be too happy to hear from you, just send me a mail with your details and I will give you a call back.

The main photograph to the left is of one of the very first families we helped last year. This family consisted of a granny and her three grandchildren who were previously orhpaned through aids. This is typcial of many of the families in Massaca. The smaller photographs to the left and below are linked to my FlickR page, please take the time to have a look!

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Habitat for Humanity Northern Ireland will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

Cheers,

Neil
