As you can see from the the photo, we did it! Early on Saturday 24th Sept we arrived at the airfield to hear that the plane that we were supposed to be using had crash landed and the pilot had been taken to hospital. This did not help the mounting nerves! By the time another plane and pilot arrived and it was our turn to go it was 6.30p.m and the sun was setting on a beautful evening. By this time we had overcome any second thoughts and just wanted to get on with it. And after a short flight to the regulation 12,000ft we just walked out of the plane door. After the terrifying realization that I was free-falling out of the skies at speed, with nothing I could do to stop it,... I managed to open my eyes and enjoy the view through the pink clouds. It was an absolutely incredible experience, and not at all scarey once our parachute had opened. I can quite understand why people want to do a repeat sky-dive as soon as possible,as was the case with Tom who predicted he would be prachuting into his Open Day next year with Aiden under his arm. Sadly, it is not for me as I touched down very slowly and safely, if somewhat inelegantly,on my bottom, I vowed NEVER to repeat the experience. I was so green about the gills I had to retire to bed for a couple of hours before regaining my land legs and enjoying a celebratory drink.
I am so very grateful to all who have sponsored me so generously and thrilled the fund for Isabel and other injured jockeys has been boosted by such a substantial amount. We all hope and pray they make a speedy recovery.
