Story

Cycling for Charity

Agra to Jaipur,

(Monday, 29th December 2008 to Friday, 2nd January 2009)

Make sure you are seated before you read on as, for those who know me, what follows is going to be shocking! I have chosen to cycle 300km over 5 days in a difficult but spectacular event through the beautiful state of Rajasthan, from Taj Mahal in Agra to the Amber Fort in Jaipur. This project, called Cycling for Charity, is organised by Veerayatan http://www.veerayatan.org/ to help disadvantaged children throughout the world.

The ride is no stroll. It’s not even an easy pedal. I amtold it requires determination and that I will have to undergo rigorous training before the ride and experience the pain and pressure of the ride itself. I will need the support and encouragement of all my friends - so I truly hope you I can count on you.

You may well ask "why am I doing this?" I have never done anything like it before and probably never will again. I amattracted by the challenge. More importantly, I ammoved by the cause and what I have learned about the project http://www.cyclingforcharity.com/. Before I joined the ride I did not realise that during every sixty seconds, 24 children in the developing world die from hunger, neglect and preventable disease. That is 35,000 children every single day. Millions of children live in extreme poverty, constantly exposed to hunger and disease, and unable to attend school. Hopefully, we will never know the depth of these problems first hand, but knowing just a little has truly motivated me to help them if I can.

The sponsorship target that I have set myself is high but I know I can achieve this with your help.  Any contribution from you would be most welcome and immensely appreciated. Whatever the amount, the children that this money will benefit will always be extremely grateful.

With best regards,

Nemish Mehta
