Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit Humanity First's JustGiving appeal page for the Nepal Earthquake.

On Saturday 25th April 2015 in the morning, a powerful earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale struck 40 miles from the capital Kathmandu in Nepal. The quake was felt in New Delhi and casualties and deaths have occurred in India, China and Bangladesh. However, the bulk of the fatalities, injuries and damage have been in Nepal.

There are over 7,000 confirmed deaths and fears that there are many more unaccounted for in remote villages. Thousands have been injured and left exposed in the open due to the destruction of homes and buildings. There have been numerous aftershocks leading to further destruction and avalanches in the Himalayas. Hospitals are overwhelmed and frightened inhabitants are sleeping in the open in fear of these aftershocks, some of which have been magnitude 6.7. The worst affected areas in Nepal are around the Lamjung and Gorkha districts.

Humanity First has launched a global appeal to help the victims. We have a specialist medical team consisting of doctors and paramedics from the UK on the ground in Nepal. Emergency supplies such as water filters and family survival kits are being sourced through our partners. Humanity First is working closely with local authorities in Nepal as well as the United Nations. We have been requested to assist in the Gorkha District.

Please donate whatever you can at this critical time. The survivors, many in pain, fear and danger need your support now. Thank you.

Rahan Shaheen, Director of Fundraising, Humanity First

The Nepal Earthquake appeal will support communities affected and those potentially affected in the future by the disaster. In the unlikely event that we raise more money than can reasonably and effectively spent, any surplus funds will be used to help us prepare for and respond to other humanitarian disasters anywhere in the world.
