Story

500 Nets - HELPING TO FIGHT MALARIA

This month our Be One Percent contribution will respond to World Malaria Day (April, 25). Our money will be passed on to a well organised and dedicated charity, Against Malaria. The disease fluctuates over time but, in the recent past, between 1 and 3 million people have been dying each year from the disease. 70% of these have been children under 5 years of age. Malaria is the number one global killer of pregnant women.

The most important need is for the comprehensive supply of protective nets to vulnerable populations. These cost around £3 each and are re-usable over long periods. This means that this month our contribution will buy a minimu of500 protective nets. Our confidence in Against Malaria is boosted by their transparency on the web. For example, if you go to http://www.againstmalaria.com you can track the distribution of the protective nets. The organisation is the primary supplier of these for other recognised charities, such as the Red Cross, Red Crescent and Concern Universal. Thanks again to all of our members for making this important contribution to their work possible this month.
