Story

Hi Everyone!

Thank you for taking the time to look at my fundraising page.  As you all know I am going to Milawi in August to assist the Salvation Army working with children who have been the victims of trafficking.

The Salvation Army in is working in partnership with the government Social Services department and a local businessman in the Mchinji community to respond to the issue of child trafficking at the Zambia/Malawi border.

The Goal of the project is to contribute to the prevention, and improvement of the physical, economic, and psychosocial well being of victims of child trafficking, children involved in other forms of child labour, and their families/care takers.

In order to achieve the proposed goal, three objectives were formulated which addresses the major gaps and challenges that were identified in addressing child trafficking issues in the district.

Objective 1:  Community Awareness and Sensitisation

Raise public awareness to 4000 people on child trafficking, the dangers of trafficking and protection available in the country.

Objective 2:  CapacityBuilding

To build the capacity of 400 people including community members, TSA officers and other stakeholders on sustainable community based preventive measures on child anti-trafficking.

Objective 3: Care and Support

Provide Care, Support and Restore hope of 480 (an average of 20 per month) victims of child trafficking, and their families.

Transit accommodation for 24 trafficked children

Separate bathroom for boys and girls

Children will sleep 4 to a room (bunk beds)

2 counselling rooms  - for the psychosocial support of victims and private counselling/interviewing of children.

2 offices for project manager and the community development worker.
