Thank you for visiting the Newcastle Hockey Club "Playing In Pink Cancer Charity Hockey Tournament 2008" fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor us online now!
Following on from successful tournaments in Newcastle in 2005 and Whitley Bay in 2007, where we raised almost £1000 in total to date, there will be another tournament this year in Newcastle on Sat 31st May, 2008.
This year the games will be 11-a-side and there will be two teams from Newcastle Ladies, one team from Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Ladies and a touring team from Kinross Ladies (nr Edinburgh). The tournament will run from 12.00pm until 4.00pm at Westgate Centre for Sport in Newcastle.
We have secured free use of the pitch again at Westgate, however, there will be a £5 match fee for all players taking part as well as a raffle to once again raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support and St Oswald's Hospice in memory of three local girls who lost their lives after bravely battling cancer over the last few years.
All players will be asked to wear something pink whilst they play in memory of Sally Fraser, Sharon Irwin and Felicity Graham. It was with the support and dedication of the staff at St Oswald's Hospice and the loving and devoted care of the Macmillan Nurses that enabled these girls to be comfortable in the final stages of this horrendous disease. These nurses are truly amazing and we would like to do a little more, to once again show our appreciation for taking care of our sadly missed and special friends.
In further efforts to raise money for these charities, there will be some additional rules and penalties (i.e. 10p fines) in force during the games as below. Umpires will be armed with a pink card to indicate when a fine will be imposed! 1. Swearing 2. Bad use of reverse stick when could get feet round instead! 3. Silly mistake by goalie 4. Falling over 5. Missing an open/easy goal – otherwise known as ‘how wide d’you need the goalposts?’ 6. Any team member jumping to avoid fast incoming ball when they should be defending it. 7. Etc, etc!
There will be also be a night out in Newcastle for food/drinks in the evening at The Slug & Lettuce.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: St Oswald's Hospice will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
