Story
Thanks for visiting our fund-raising page.
On Dec 18th we are driving 4500 miles to Timbuktu as part of the Plymouth Dakar Rally. To raise funds for Turning Point - as well as the charities the rally supports.
The Plymouth to Timbuktu Challenge has a few rules;
1) The car must cost no more than £100
2) Spend no more than £15 on rally preparation
3) Hand the car over to the Rotary Club in Bamako for charity auction
4) All rules can be broken (except rule 3)
Leaving from Newport Pagnell in the UK on the 18th December, we will cover 4500 miles in three weeks, through France and Spain to Morocco, through Western Sahara to Mauritania and then drop the cars off in Bamako, Mali for the charity auction. (Ours should fetch a pretty penny as we are getting them painted by graffiti artists)
The Rally is completely unsupported. If we break down, run out of diesel, get lost or get into any bother - we’re on our own. There are no support trucks, fixers, teams of medics, mechanics...
If we make it to Bamako in one piece we will be heading up to Timbuktu and 'The Festival au Desert' - one of the most remote music festivals in the world, a few hours away from Timbuktu.
As well as selling our cars at the Bamako auction we would like you to sponsor our chosen charity, Turning Point.
Give generously, Turning Point do great things for people with drink and drug problems.
Donating through JustGiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Turning Point gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, JustGiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Your sponsorship will go straight to Turning Point, and will in no way pay for the costs of our trip - that's down to us! So please sponsor us now!
Thanks for all your help!

The FCO have today made Mauritania one of their 'No Go areas' due to threats of terrorism and kidnappings.
For this reason the rally organiser has emailed everyone giving us 'other options' and is basically not taking responsibility for people driving this route.
However... some of the rally cars (including us) are still meeting up in Tarifa, Southern Spain and heading off to Africa. We think about half the cars will be pulling out.
Will we all have the balls to cross Mauritania? Who knows, but I'm game if everyone else is. (at least we will have tried!)
UPGRADE!▼
We have upgraded our 4x4 Land Rover for a bright red..... Nissan Micra! :-)
We didn't think the Land Rover would cut it. (mainly due to the engine not working!)
All this money spent on second hand Land Rover parts that didn't work and a new car has sent us well over budget!
Please spare a few quid to help us with fuel/food etc, you can make a donation by clicking the Paypal donate button, on the left of this page:

We also have space for company banners on the car, yours for just £50 - contact info@bt-photography.co.uk
