The Newman Holiday Trust - Oratory Holiday
Established in 1981, the Trust began by running a one week summer holiday for children with special needs. The Trust now provides holidays for over 120 disabled children aged 4-16 each year, in various locations around the UK. Due to the high level of skilled care they require or financial circumstances, the children selected for these breaks would not otherwise receive a holiday. The holidays provide a range of fun activities in a safe and supported environment and use a care ratio of one helper to one child at all times.
The Trust is an entirely voluntary organisation and owes its success to over 200 people who dedicate their free time to helping these children. This voluntary structure ensures that every penny raised goes directly towards a child’s holiday.
The Oratory Holiday
The Newman Trust Holiday at Oratory takes place for one week during August every year at The Oratory school in Woodcote near Reading. The Holiday provides a week of fun and activity for children from Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas as well as providing respite for their parents or carers for that week.
- Holidays can cost the Trust up to £10,000 each year which is raised entirely from fundraising
- The Newman Holiday Trust has no paid employees therefore every penny goes directly to provide a child with a holiday
- With adequate funding The Newman Holiday Trust will be able to provide holidays for more disadvantaged children with special needs
-Currently the trust has insufficient funds to pay for all of next year's holidays and without funding some holidays may not be able to go ahead
