My story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

Since having children I have realised how fortunate I am that they are relatively healthy and easy to look after. Even then, those of you that know me, know how hard I have found it to raise them thus far. Children can be very demanding and you have to make lots of sacrifices! Imagine how hard it must be then to have a child with a genetic disorder: who is ill, or has development problems, or a terminal illness. I have great sympathy for those children and their families, and that is why I support Jeans for Genes.

Jeans for Genes is a charity best known for having a day in October when people donate money in order to wear jeans for the day - that is how I first got involved with them. The charity supports children with genetic disorders - there are over 4000 types of genetic disorder, many with no cure, and Jeans for Genes not only funds research and medical facilties, but it also provides support for families. Whether it is a day out at the zoo, or a family retreat weekend, it is important that mums and dads get respite, brothers and sisters have fun away days where they can get the attention they need, and the children themselves can have fun in a safe environment where they're the same as everyone else.

Th charity raises money throughout the year and I have chosen to support them by running the London 10k run on 12th July. As you know, that is also my 37th birthday and I could not think of a better way of celebrating it than getting fit and raising money for a good cause! I am even giving up booze in June to make sure I get really healthy! In fact that may be harder than the run - that alone must be worth £250 in sponsorship!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Jeans For Genes Campaign gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now! Thank you - Lol Nic
