We support peoples who live in forests and depend on them for their livelihoods. FPP aims to create political space for them to secure their rights, control their lands and decide their own futures.

Story

Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.

We are running the Edinburgh Marathon which is on the 25th of May. This will be a gruelling 26 miles of sweat and pain. We are putting in the training hours with dedication, determination, charisma,  charm and modesty. It's going to be a tough run and Conrad is attempting to break the world record for one legged marathons after crippling his knee in training.

We are doing this in aid of the Achuar, an indigenous people who live deep in the Amazon rainforest in Peru. The Achuar are currently fighting two canadian energy companies (Talisman and Petrolifera) who wish to begin extraction of oil and gas on their territory and ancestral homeland. The Achuar have already suffered the devestating environmental and humanitarian consequences of oil exploition at the hands of American oil giant Occidental (OXY) which include - polluting rivers, poisoning water supplies and killing wildlife. The money raised will send a group of 6 leaders and their legal advisors to engage directly with the directors of Talisman and Petrolifera to demand that they respect the Achuar's land and rights. They will also meet with OXY executives and shareholders to demand clean up work and compensation as well as follow up a landmark legal case they are bringing against OXY in the US. Through similar actions, the Achuar have already successfully defended their forest against 4 other multinational oil companies so your donation has the potential to make a huge difference!
