Story
After the great success of my sponsored channel swim for Aspire last year, I'm taking a brave step (or 20,000) and running for charity this year.
The Great South Run on October 26th is 10 miles around the streets of Portsmouth and Southsea. I grew up a few miles from Portsmouth, and I'm joining my brother and sister on this run.
My brother is a keen runner, who runs several times a week and often runs this kind of distance. My sister took up running a while back and is getting harderbetterfasterstronger rapidly.
But as for me, I am crap at running. Really, really, no good at all. I never have been. I have never run more than 2 miles in my life, and haven't run that far for several years. Running for more than a few steps makes me feel like death and gives me flashbacks to asthma-plagued circuits of school playing fields in deep snow, pursued by axe-wielding sadistic PE teachers. And bears.
So this is going to take months of serious training and will still be a major challenge.
