Story

UPDATE:

Hello and thanks for revisiting the page.  Well I did it ! One of the joys of being given the chance to use my marathon run to raise money for Cameroon, is the knowledge that small amounts can make big differences.   When you think that just £100 will help 10 schools build gardens to teach sustainable farming and a little over half that amount will provide HIV/AIDS awareness for 800 people; it is easy to see how our small contributions make real change happen.  Because of the kind sponsorship I recieved for Sunday, my 6 hour run may have felt like a lifetime but every penny raised will now make a lifetime's difference to someone.

In October 2007 my daughter Victoria, together with other 6th Form students from Kent College Canterbury, travelled to Cameroon to experience first hand the life changing work made possible by MRDF’s partnerships.

Not only did she love Cameroon but she was inspired by the ways that practical initiatives could dramatically help various groups, both young and old.

So, I’ve decided to run the London Marathon for MRDF’s partners in Cameroon and would appreciate your support.

The 3 partners the group visited were:

Youth Development Centre (YDC)
YDC supports a network of primary and secondary schools around Limbe, South West Province.  It equips school pupils with knowledge and skills on sustainable vegetable and fruit gardening, developing an interest in agriculture and the environment and enabling students to support themselves and their families when they leave school.
Presbyterian Rural Training Centre (PRTC)
PRTC has been working in North West Province of Cameroon for over 20 years, helping rural communities to work themselves out of poverty. At the heart of PRTC’s work is the ‘Block Course’, a comprehensive training course covering all aspects of rural livelihoods, such as sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, animal husbandry, marketing and financial management, HIV/AIDS awareness and medicinal plants.
Community Development Volunteers For Technical Assistance (CDVTA)
CDVTA is a charity based in Bamenda, North West Province. It is one of the only organisations working with the elderly in Cameroon. It empowers the elderly in rural households and communities, enabling them to alleviate poverty, improve livelihoods, increase food security and support community cohesion.
