Scottish Island Peaks Race: after the event roundup
After a valiant effort, we were forced to retire by the extreme weather around the Mull of Kintyre. Heading into the teeth of a Force 8 to 9, with wind over tide and heavy seas, we could not safely continue on to Arran and were amongst the two-thirds of the field who withdrew safely.
We did however complete two-thirds of the course, including 42 miles of fell running with over 8000ft of ascent and over 90 nautical miles sailed, 10hrs of which were in darkness and amongst some of the most hazardous tidal waters on the West Coast of Scotland.
For those who wish to read more about the horrendous conditions, the following page has more information and links to a number of teams' blogs:

A team of 5 of us from Maersk will be competing in the Scottish Islands Peaks Race, starting at noon on 15th May 2009.
The race is for teams of hill runners and sailors over a long weekend around the beautiful West Coast of Scotland. The sailing course of 160 nautical miles includes the strong tides and overfalls of the Corryvreckan and the Mull of Kintyre whilst the runners cover 60 miles and 11,500 ft of climbing.
The official website for the event is: http://www.sipr.zetnet.co.uk/
This year The Adventure Show is planning to film the race so you've a good chance of seeing what we went through for your money!
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Cancer Link Aberdeen & North gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
The team and CLAN appreciate your support - we will put in plenty of pain for your pound! Also please note that the team are paying all our own costs (entry fees, equipment, food etc), so all of your donation goes to CLAN and none to us.
