Challenge Cancer Through Adventure helps people diagnosed with Cancer or a terminal illness, living in the Peak District and surrounding areas to achieve an ambition to take part in an adventurous activity. It helps by providing grants, expertise and support.

Story

Nicky Spinks is taking part in the Yorkshireman Off-Road Marathon which is 26.3 miles with 4000' climb run over the footpaths and tracks of the South Pennines.(www.kcac.co.uk/)

In June 2006 Nicky was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and had a mastectomy and lymph clearance in July. The test results were very good; there was no spread of the cancer and therefore she did not need chemo or radiotherapy.

I have chosen to run a "marathon" to raise money for the charities that helped me through this as I have always said I would never do a marathon; for me it will be far more of a challenge than a day on the fells.

Dawn Hopkinson was and still is an inspiration to me and I think that Challenge Cancer Through Adventure's approach to cancer is the right one (www.challengecancer.org.uk ). I am also raising money on a paper sponsorship form for Cancer Research because their website gave me the much needed but factual information I have looked for during my diagnosis.

Thank you

Nicky
