Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

I am taking part  in Joshua's canal walk on Saturday 7 June (organised by his mum Natasha) to raise money for the 'Space to Grow' campaign for the NICU at the RUH in Bath.  The walk is along the Avon and Kennet Canal, starting in Devizes and going through to Bath.  It is about 20 miles in total.

The hospital desperately needs to expand it's intensive care facilities, and needs help with fundraising to create a bigger and better enviornment for babies, parents and staff.  Hence the 'Space to Grow' title.

I have personal reasons for taking part and I want to raise money on behalf of my brother Stew and his wife Sally, who many of you know.  I am walking for their twins Eliza and Ruben who were born at 24 weeks, on 3 May 2008.  Eliza is sadly not with us, but Ruben is fighting on, and had it not been for the NICU in Bath, would not be here either.  Stew and Sally have first hand experience of the fantastic staff at the RUH, but also know that they are working in cramped and over crowded conditions, where there are just not enough cots for the babies who need intensive care.  This is not a good situation for anyone involved and the hospital want to build a new unit and increase their facilities, but obviously this will cost a huge amount of money.

Although the walk is from Devizes to Bath I am not going to be able to complete the full walk as I will be 26 weeks pregnant, and I am suffering quite badly with sciatica.  However I will start the walk in Devizes and see how far I can go!

I would be grateful for any sponsorship for this event, to help babies like Ruben, and parents like Stew and Sally.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Royal United Hospital Charitable Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
