Story

Thanks for visiting our fundraising page.

Captain David Hicks MC, my partner and Ed's brother, was killed in Afghanistan on 11 August 2007 whilst serving as acting Company Commander of C Company of the 1st Battallion The Royal Anglian Regiment. He was one of nine of the Regiment who lost their lives whilst serving for their country in some of the most gruelling  fighting soldiers on the front line have seen since the Second World War.

Fifty other soldiers from the Regiment were seriously wounded and many others have sustained injuries such that they are unable to continue their front line career within the Army.

Numerous awards, including Military Crosses, a Distinguished Service Order and Mention In Dispatches have been awarded to the men of the 1st Battalion Royal Anglians for their bravery and dedication. They will be remembered for taking the fight to the enemy and making a large impact on the Taleban's campaign.

Ed and I believe that the soldiers who have served Queen and country should be recognised for their involvement in the campaign in Afghanistan and as such are running the British Military Fitness 10K Run on 25 October 2008 in their honour and memory.

Please give generously as many of these soldiers and their families have been severely affected by the war and need your help. They deserve it. We should be proud of our heroes and what they have done for us and should not confuse their hard efforts with the political background to the war. Without the Armed Forces we would be nothing. Thank God there are men and women who are willing to go where they are told to serve you and me.

We and the whole family are extremely proud of David and what he achieved together with all of the other fallen soldiers. They are always in our thoughts and we will never forget them.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us: The Royal Anglian Regiment Benevolent Charity gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Please give generously.

Thank you for your support. Your donation means a great deal to us.
