I am walking the Cumbria Way in Aid of St Luke's Kenton Grange Hospice 1st-5th May 2008. The full walk is 72 miles which I am hoping to be able to do, although there is an option of shorter distances.
Due to the distance and terrain, months of rigorous training is required. As well as being a personal challenge, I hope to raise as much money for St Luke's Hospice as possible. To follow the route I will be taking in May, you can go to: www.ulverston.net/cumbrianway.asp
The annual operating costs of the hospice is estimated at £3million. Less than 30% of this figure is received from statutory bodies, the rest needs to be found from voluntary contributions and proceeds from fundraising events such as this walk. For more information about the Hospice, please go to: www.stlukes-hospice.org
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: St Luke's Hospice (Kenton Grange) will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online.
Many thanks for your support.
I will be posting updates of my training on this page.......
- So far, I have gotten such a bad blister from wearing socks that were too big for my famously small feet, that I was unable to walk with any shoes with a back on them for a week!
- Good news though, I am now able to train in trainers, next stage.....my walking boots!
- Yeah! Over 4 miles in my boots today and not a new blister in sight!
-
THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL THE PEOPLE WHO HAVE SPONSORED ME SO FAR, IT IS DEFINATELY HELPING WITH MY MOTIVATION!!!
- It's getting serious now. We have done walks on 3 CONSECUTIVE days!!! 6, 5 and 5 miles! It has not done my recovering blisters any good but we are "dead chuffed" with ourselves....onwards and upwards.... in our case this involves tackling bigger hills and another milage increase.....keep on trudging!!!
- This week we decided to give ourselves a bit of a rest but do one BIG walk. So we did just that by completing a 9 miler. We definitely ached but were proud of our achievement!
- No amount of wind, rain or mud or horse manure was going to stop us from completing 7 miles. And think I have finally solved my blister issues
!!! I'm walking on my hands! haha
- Now that my walking partner's ankle injuries are healing, both of mine are now painful
. But with all 4 ankles taped up like mummies & lots of vaseline, we walked 10 miles in rain, snow and hail! Words cannot describe the mud we trudged through for the ENTIRE 10miles, our legs possible worked hard enough for 15miles!!! If any fellow walkers are reading this, we would recommend that you avoid Chesham to Rickie until it dries!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I HAVE NOW REACHED MY TARGET, BUT IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY SPONSORED ME, PLEASE DO NOT LET THIS PUT YOU OFF!!!
- Oh well, I have been to see a podiatrist to find out why I was in pain. The outcome was that I have NOT to wear walking boots, only walking shoes as it seems my feet and ankles are not the right shape for the boots!!! So now, with less than 3 weeks to go, I have to walk-in new shoes - BLISTER ALERT!!! haha - Grateful of Watford, I'm still laughing!
- Well, this is it! All the training, planning and talking (read moaning) is going to be put into action! er.... I'll tak the low road! (if given half a chance!)

BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS SPONSORED ME!!!
