Dear Supporter,

I have the honour of being President of UK Youth, a leading national youth work charity supporting over 750,000 young people. Our work enables young people to raise their aspirations, realise their potential and have their achievements recognised via accredited non-formal learning programmes and activities. As a result of these programmes many young people transform their lives and achieve things that they had previously thought impossible.

This summer I am undertaking a 1200 mile cycling challenge to mark our centenary. My challenge was “launched” by our Patron Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal at St James’s Palace on 18th February, this year.

The Challenge has three objectives:

  • To promote and celebrate the positive contribution that young people make to society by highlighting our centenary campaign “Positive about Youth”.
  • To raise awareness of the impact that UK Youth's work has on the lives of young people in communities across the UK
  • To raise £1,000,000 to enable UK Youth to continue to expand its vital work  in the years ahead.

From 22nd July to 3rd August I will be cycling around the UK with my two sons Leo and Greg, with Magnus Backstedt, a former Tour de France racer and winner of the 2004 Paris- Roubaix, and two friends, Ian Williams and Martin McCrossan. We will cover, on average, 100 miles per day at a speed of around 20 mph – a shade under the pace of a professional rider in the Tour de France, for the whole 13 days.  This sort of pace and distance is a first for me - so it is a genuine challenge.

Thank you for visiting this page, I do hope you will support me!

Yours,

Nigel Mansell
