Thank you for visiting our fundraising page.
On 31st May 2008 two of Nigel's brothers and nineteen of Nigel’s friends from Taibach RFC undertook a sponsored cycle ride from the Burry Port RNLI lifeboat Station, via the Mumbles RNLI Lifeboat station, to the Port Talbot RNLI Lifeboat Station. A distance of approximately 32 miles.
Our aim being to raise sufficient funds to enable the Inshore Lifeboat at the Port Talbot RNLI Lifeboat Station, which is due to be replaced in December 2008, to be bought in Nigel’s memory. The cost of the new Lifeboat is over £20,000 and we are well on our way to reaching that figure due to the donations made and fund raising events that have been organised in Nigel’s memory. Any additional sponsorship received over and above the cost of the boat will be used to buy new equipment for the Port Talbot Station.
You probably remember that Nigel played rugby for Taibach RFC,
Aberavon RFC, Bridgend RFC and Dunvant RFC until his retirement in November 1997.
What you may not know is that, on 27th September 1985, Nigel became an Inshore Lifeboat crew member at the Port Talbot RNLI Lifeboat Station. His service ended, with his death at 33 years of age, on the 18th February 1999, he being then the second longest serving crew member at Port Talbot.
He took part in 32 rescues, in some appalling conditions at sea, returning safely with those whose lives had been at risk. Of the 32 rescues, Nigel was Coxswain 5 times, in total 14 lives were saved.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to donate: RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution will receive your money electronically and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in Gift Aid will be added to your donation at no cost to you.
Please donate generously.
Many thanks for your support.
