Adam, my youngest son and I will be competing in the BUPA 10K run on 26 May. We are running for SPARKS, a charity that raises money to support medical research into conditions affecting children. The very thought of cancer sends a chill down most people's spine. The thought of it affecting one of your own children is simply impossible to comprehend. In August last year Nick Keen, our FD here a Paragon and a great personal friend, got just that news. His son, Jonathan, was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Emergency surgery and intense chemo and radiotherapy has saved his life, although his treatment has become a permanent feature of their lives. It may seem odd to say but they are the lucky ones in that the treatment was excellent evidencing the progress made in research in recent years. However, so much more needs to be done to make this cruel illness a thing of the past.
