St Mary's Church Alveley is a lively faith community serving at the heart of a friendly Shropshire village. Its beautiful building has been well maintained for over 850 years. This project will fund a new lead roof which is now urgently needed, equipping its continuing ministry to all for future generations.

Story

We need a new lead ROOF on St Mary's Church, Alveley!

Our Rector Nick and his wife Alison are going to be camping up on the old one during the long night of Wednesday 20 December, from 9pm until... - well, you'll decide!  For every £2 raised, they'll stay up there for a minute, so £10 = 5 minutes, £120 = 1 hour and so on.  So choose how many minutes you want to sponsor - but come what may they're coming down at 9am.  So if the total exceeds 12 hours (or £1440) Nick & Alison will have to serve the rest of their 'sentence' later next year.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Alveley Church will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.

LATEST NEWS!... Yes, we did it!  We survived the night and even got some sleep... Thank you so much to all our wonderful supporters, especially for the tea, thermals and bacon butties!  We topped 12 hours sponsorship so we stayed 9.10pm - 9.10am.  But we'd really welcome your giving still - and we'll be going up for the extra time some time in 2007.  We still need at least another £40,000 for our roof:  So please do sponsor us now to help us stay dry, and we won't even have to stay out longer for it!

Many thanks for all your generous support and encouragement.
