Story

TEAM NIGHTSTRIDER SAYS THANKS!

It's official - we did it!

The weekend of 22nd-23rd July 2006 saw Aimee, Ben and Ian stride, walk and eventually hobble a whopping 100 kilometres in a gallant bid to raise £5000 for three refugee education projects on the Thai-Burma border!
Visit http://www.burmaborderben.com/nightstrider for photos and details of all the exciting happenings over this ever-so-slightly barmy weekend!

It's official - you did it!
A massive THANK YOU to everyone who's sponsored us so far - together we're amassing a great total and it'll make a serious difference to the projects we're supporting.  And some great news just over from the border - it looks as if we'll get enough to extend the women's political empowerment project by two months - fantastic.  If you haven't managed to yet, please spare a few pounds to sponsor us now - thanks.

It's official - they did it!
It's an absolute certainty that without our support team there motivating, inspiring and (literally) feeding us, we just wouldn't have made it - so a great big thanks to (in order of appearance): Ian's mum, Katherine, Sarah, Rupes, Ali and Jenny, Sarah and Gemma, Aimee's mum, Ian, Rob and girlfriend, Ben's mum and pops, and Aimee's Dad.  You really did make the difference!

And we all did it because...
Ben spent last year teaching in a refugee camp on the Thai-Burma border, and Nightstrider is our chance to help students and teachers trapped on the border take a step towards making their own democratic footprint on the world.  The three projects we're supporting will:

- Train 30 refugee teachers in active, critical and child-centred teaching methods - enabling hundreds of students to benefit and empowering teachers to share their new skills with many others working on the border.

- Provide 10 refugee schools along the border with simple but vital resources for learning
- food, books, and writing materials with which children can learn, reach their potential, and brighter futures can be lived.

- Give gifted young students the opportunity to see and learn beyond refugee camp fences
- political empowerment training with the Burmese Women's Union will equip bright young female students with the skills to help forge a more democratic destiny for all.

To put these words into action, we've hooked up with UK partners Prospect Burma and three excellent locally-owned projects on the border - please visit our website for all the details.

Sponsoring us online is great - it's quick (5 mins tops), it's secure, and it helps us raise all the more (if you're a UK taxpayer, for every £1 you donate, 28p extra is added by the lovely taxman)!

We've staggered something like a million steps during Nightstrider.  Please join us by taking the biggest sponsorship step you can!

Thanks for your support,

Aimee, Ben and Ian
