Hola todo el mundo!

Thank you so much for visiting my Justgiving site. I just thought I’d fill you in on what this is all about exactly (if you haven’t heard me go on about it already!) I am involved in, and fundraising for an amazing charity called Project Peru , http://www.projectperu.org.uk/index.htm, for which I am aiming to raise a total of £1000 (or more!).  

During summer 2008, the Leeds Peru Group and I have been given the opportunity to go out to Lima and really make a difference. We will be based at the Project Peru Children’s Refuge and will be helping with the construction of a half-way house, situated in a nearby shanty area.  The building will be used by children, families and older people in case of emergencies. Furthermore, it will supplement existing facilities including a soup kitchen.

Our days in Lima will be structured, in that during the mornings we will work on the building and afternoons will be spent helping out in the soup kitchens, which feeds over 300 children from the slums. In the evenings, we will be participating in all sorts of activities with the children that live in the Project Peru Refuge. These children are, for many different reasons, no longer able to live at home and this refuge is vital for giving them the food, shelter and support they need.

While we are out in Peru, we will also be taking part in a challenge of a lifetime in order to raise money for the charity. This is the Inca Trail, a 45km, 4 day trek, where we will hike for ten hours a day through the Andes at altitudes over 4,000 meters! Although it is going to be difficult, the trek combines a breathtaking mix of Inca culture and architecture as well as a diverse wildlife, so the experience in itself will be incredible!

We have already been working off line and will continue to with various events and cake sales (keep your ears and eyes peeled) but we still have a way to go! Any donation that I receive from this website will be greatly appreciated, no matter how much you decide to give. Not only will this be helping words be turned into action by going to such a worthy cause, but the support you give to me will mean the world!
