Story
Thanks to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice for helping us collect an amazing £14,000 in our first year. This page has now stopped receiving donations, but retains over 700 messages from contributors. Please visit www.justgiving.com/nikkistrust to donate to the trust directly.
Nikki was my wife, an amazing, somewhat cheeky person who put everybody else before herself. She lost her fight with Cervical Cancer on the 14th August 2011 at the age of 33; she fought the most amazing battle during which she was so strong, handling the situation with such dignity and as a nurse herself, she made a huge impression on all around her.
She was the inspiration behind an amazing restoration project featured on the Channel 4 Restoration man program; the Mill Tower is a stunning legacy but sadly Nikki never got to see it finished.
Nikki agreed that we should do everything we possibly could to help tackle this disease. She herself said to her sister “Shelly, what we have to go though now as a family will stop another family going through it instead”. The family and I are doing everything we can to make good on this sentiment and Nikki’s Trust is being setup to promote awareness of and access to the HPV vaccination that can prevent this disease and also for those in Nikki’s position to tackle the unbelievable pain that cancer causes if it spreads to the bones.
We truly believe that it is possible to make a genuine tangible difference with goals in both prevention and pain control. You can find out the full story at www.nikkistrust.co.uk
Whilst the Trust is being established the Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice have been kind enough to provide us with a channel to collect your donations. They will be the first to benefit from the pain control equipment and staff training that we know will make such a difference to the lives of those in Nikki's situation. The donations will be split, with the remaining funds being used to explore the vaccination goals and take the pain control goal further afield once the Trust is independent.
Please dig deep; we really can make a difference!
It's even easier with text donations, just text 'NIKT99' and your donation value (e.g. NIKT99 £5) to 70070.
Thank you for your support.
Pete
