Story

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so generously to this small but amazing charity and supported my marathon endeavour.   I am touched and humbled by the support I have received.  I decided this evening to raise my target to see if I can get to the magic £10 000.  Thank you for helping me to get this far.

Here's my story:

"Karma is not just about the troubles, but also about surmounting them." - Rick Springfield

"I'll run a marathon when "this" is all over."  That's the promise I made to myself as I drove home from the Hammersmith Hospital almost four years ago.  John and his brother Daniel had just come out of surgery. John had a new kidney and Dan had made a wonderful gesture, a reality.  Today, John is well and deals with the many ups, and some downs of his transplant with fortitude, humour and lots of discipline.

Training to run the 2010 London Marathon has injected a new form of discipline in to my life. Wow!! Training to make my promise a reality has been a huge commitment.  But one that has taught me a lot about myself, life and not least of all - running.  With only a month to go, I have finally got this all important Fundraising Page out to all of you. Need a push on the computer discipline side there!  :-D

As many of you know, I have chosen to run for the  Hammersmith Hospital Kidney Patients Association  The HHKPA supports people with kidney failure - those on dialysis, transplant patients and their families.  It is run by totally by volunteers who are patients, carers and the renal staff themselves.  They do an incredible job giving support and advice to those dealing with kidney failure as well as working tirelessly to raise public awareness about renal issues and improving medical conditions for patients.  We are extremely grateful to them for the work that they voluntarily do to ensure that families like ours have a support network and a wider understanding in the community at large for a condition that affects so many.

Thank you for taking the time to read my short "story" and if you are able to, for you donation to this wonderful, small charity that makes such a huge difference.

Marathon day is 25th April 2010.  Spare a thought for me, and the other 34 999 runners who will be out there, running 26.2 miles to make a difference.  Maybe I will see you on my way round.  Give me a shout if you see me crawling past.

With love and thanks to you all.
