Welcome to my first charity webpage! And like all the rest it's your hard-earned money I'm after!
Hello everybody! Bonjour! Mange Tout! For those who havent heard from me yet, we did it! Jack, my willing accomplice, and I left his place in Eltham (with Mrs Murphy's sandwiches competing for space with apricots & energy drinks in our panniers) at 9am on Thursday 27th August and arrived in Paris around 6:30pm on Saturday 29th! 3 days of utter pain made worth it as we popped open our €3 sparkling wine under the arc de triomphe.
At times it was brutal, hill after hill after stong headwind held us back (and that was just Kent) but we battled on, left the white cliffs of Dover behind and landed in Boulogne with no clue where l'Hotel Formule 1 was (think Travelodge crossed with student halls and remove the frills) until a friendly family took pity on us and my poor French and drove us to the right side of town late at night with our bikes on the back! 2 days, many baguettes and bags of haribo later and we were hobbling around some of europe's finest landmarks and looking for a seat at every opportunity. Serious pain but a great experience - very rewarding; thanks again for the support!
The figures:
total distance pedalled = 244miles (393km)
total punctures = 0falls = 0
angry French lorry drivers = is there another kind?
I'm raising money for the Joanna Brown Trust, which is a charity my sister helped to set up. It was created in honour of my sister Helen's best friend, who tragically died a year ago while they were on holiday after seeing the Beijing Olympics. Jo was very passionate about sport, and the charity aims to celebrate this by encouraging involvement and enjoyment of sport for everyone. Every amount you can give, no matter how small, is very much appreciated. Please visit the website here for more. Thank you!!!
